Ancient Forest at anan

Travel protected waters in covered, heated boats on the beautiful 35-mile boat ride down the back channel between Wrangell Island and mainland Alaska. Your destination is a rich cultural experience and exploration of nature at the renowned Anan Wildlife Observation area, known for being a prolific salmon spawning stream that attracts wildlife of all manner including harbor seal, bald eagles, as well as both black and brown bears. On this tour we are here during non-peak season but there is still a chance of sighting a bear.

Expert local naturalist interpretation is provided by your guide as you take in the forest, pristine shoreline and waterfalls around you, while keeping an eye out for wildlife and marine mammals. Your cultural guide is a local Wrangell resident with extensive wilderness experience.
